Patna: Suspected hooch claimed lives of 12 people in Saran and Siwan districts, while more than eight sick are admitted in various hospitals of Chhapra, Siwan and Patna. According to information, three people died in Saran, while nine became victim of the suspected illicit liquor in Siwan. Officials said the victims had consumed locally brewed liquor, which allegedly contained harmful chemicals.

One of the victims of Saran, who was admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), was facing loss of vision and died late evening, they said. Saran DM Aman Samir said, “The deceased have been identified as Islamuddin Ansari (32) and Shamshad Ansari (35), residents of Ibrahimpur village under Mashrak police station area of the district. On Monday night, Islamuddin had consumed illicit liquor brought from Siwan along with fried fish in a party with his cousins, Shamshad and Mumtaz, at Ibrahimpur village.

However, they fell ill on Tuesday and Islamuddin died on Wednesday morning around 10am. His two cousins were rushed to Chhapra Sadar Hospital, from where Shamshad was referred to the PMCH, where he died around 4pm on Wednesday.” According to police sources, the liquor came from Maghar Kaudiya village in Siwan.

Ibrahimpur village, located on the border of Siwan and Saran, is 5km away from Maghar Kaudiya village, they said. Saran DM said three other persons also fell ill and were undergoing treatment in PMCH and Chhapra Sadar Hospital of which one died late evening. He, .
