Saturday, November 30, 2024 Presented by PMQ and supported by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), formerly known as Create Hong Kong (CreateHK), the deTour design festival returns to PMQ in Central, Hong Kong, from November 29 to December 15, 2024. This year, the festival extends its celebration of creativity to 17 days, offering free access to design lovers, students, and the general public. Through expansive exhibitions, hands-on workshops, guided tours, and the Creative Voice design forums, deTour 2024 showcases groundbreaking works from local and international designers, exploring how design connects to and amplifies one’s inner strength.

For centuries, design has been seen primarily as a tool to solve practical problems. However, the curator of deTour 2024, Adonian Chan, was inspired by Erich Fromm’s seminal work To Have or To Be, which challenges the traditional notion of self-worth being based on material possessions. Fromm’s concept of the “mode of having” suggests that modern society often defines a person by what they own, but true value lies in who we are—the “mode of being.
