The lightning-ignited Hobison Fire has burned 1,080 acres of pinyon pine, juniper, brush, grass and a light logging slash on public lands 45 miles northwest of Ely. So far no private property or structures have been threatened. The fire was at 80 percent containment on Wednesday evening.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced in a statement that it expects the Hobison Fire to be fully contained by Thursday evening, Aug. 22. BLM said the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Ely Ranger District, the National Park Service and private contractors are helping extinguish the fire.

“Fire behavior is minimal. Firefighters are continuing to secure the north flank while increasing the depth of mop-up on the heel and other flanks,” BLM’s statement read. The fire was first reported at approximately 2:40 p.
