Sunday, November 10, 2024 Himachal introduces real-time bus tracking to enhance travel, aiming to boost convenience and efficiency across the state. In a forward-thinking effort to improve public transportation, the Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation (HRTC) is piloting a new Real-Time Passenger Information System (RTPIS). This innovative technology enables passengers to monitor bus locations in real-time with a simple click, potentially reducing waiting times and enhancing the efficiency of bus travel throughout the region for both locals and visitors.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri revealed that the RTPIS is being initially tested on select buses along crucial routes as part of a wider initiative to upgrade HRTC’s offerings and increase the reliability and user-friendliness of public transportation. With the complete roll-out, travelers will be able to track buses directly through the HRTC website and via digital displays at major bus depots. Further enhancing passenger convenience, these digital displays at prominent bus stations will provide live updates about bus timings and arrivals.

A dedicated control room at the HRTC headquarters will be established to ensure the system operates seamlessly. Projected to be operational within the next six months, this system adheres to the directives from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and supports the state government’s goal to transition HRTC into a more advanced, technology-driven service provider..
