Highlife musician Kaakyire Kwame Appiah has reiterated his longstanding support for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), revealing his association with the party since 1992. Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on August 14, Appiah emphasized his deep-rooted loyalty to the NPP and his active role as a polling agent in Darkuman and Masalakyi during past elections. Appiah, known for his political-themed music, recounted his experience creating campaign tracks for the NPP.

He highlighted a notable 2016 hit that supported then-presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo despite facing criticism from opposition parties. He reflected on that period, “If we hadn’t won in 2016, I would have considered leaving the country in 2017.” The musician expressed his continued enthusiasm for the NPP and its leadership, including Vice President Dr.

Mahamudu Bawumia. Appiah criticized detractors of Bawumia and defended his contributions, asserting that his support for the NPP and Bawumia remains unwavering. “I have two tracks dedicated to Bawumia, which I plan to use in the 2024 campaign,” he said.

In addition to his political advocacy, Appiah, who also serves as the Benkumhene of Bosomtwe Asaman, Kokofu, in the Ashanti Region, called for increased government focus on the development of Lake Bosomtwe. He proposed enhancing the lake’s tourism potential by introducing attractions such as a canopy walkway. “I am praying that if Bawumia wins, he will prioritize Lake Bosomtwe’s developme.
