There is a new coach at Highland this year as Colin McAfee takes over the head coaching duties on an interim basis for 2024 as the school continues to look for someone to take over the job on a permanent basis. The Bears lost several key players from last season to graduation but also have several key players returning." "Our two running backs, seniors Quinten Martin and Austin Stafford, are back along with Luke Bordelon, who was a standout middle linebacker last year who we are going to use at fullback," McAfee said.

"Rowan Charpentier played last year but we are going to use him at quarterback this year. "Logan Savoy is back at center along with other guys who have experience along the offensive line. We are going to use and their size to have more of a running game this year.

" As expected in Class 1A football, the same players will also be on defense and since they are also returning defensive players, McAfee feels that Highland's defense will be as good this season. According to the new coach, the biggest thing is whether or not Highland can win a game. ""We had a lot of close games last year," the new Highland coach said.

"We had a lot of close games last year and saw a lot of fight out of the team but in the end we came up a little short. "The number 1 goal right now at Highland is what are we doing to be prepared for even that first scrimmage." McAfee feels that the team can play winning football but will the team be able to take that ability to win and put in into wor.
