Prayagraj : The Allahabad high court on Friday granted bail to Abbas Ansari , an MLA and son of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, in a matter where a sale deed was allegedly executed forcefully on pistol point. On the fame day, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on Abbas Ansari's bail plea in connection with a case relating to allegedly illegally meeting his wife in Chitrakoot jail. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan gave one week time to the Uttar Pradesh government to file the reply on Abbas Ansari's bail plea.

The court adjourned the matter for September. Following the alleged incident, Abbas Ansari was shifted to Kasganj jail in February 2023. Seven people were arrested, along with Abbas Ansari's wife, in the case.

Later, Ansari's wife was granted bail in the case by the top court. On Friday, Ansari got bail in the high court by Justice Raj Beer Singh. A criminal case was registered against Abbas Ansari in Kotwali Ghazipur in 2023 by one Fakhar alleging that in 2012, Abbas and others had got the sale deed of a land forcefully executed on pistol point while no consideration amount was paid to him.

During the hearing, Abbas’s counsel Upendra Upadhya had submitted that he was falsely implicated due to political rivalry. In support of his argument, he pointed out that the alleged incident was of 2012, for which an FIR was lodged in 2023.
