Aadi Pooram or Aadi Perek is a significant Hindu festival celebrated primarily in Tamil Nadu, South India, and by Tamil communities worldwide. This year it will be observed on Wednesday, August 7. It falls on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Aadi (July-August) and is dedicated to the worship of Andal, one of the revered Alvars (saint-poets) of the Tamil Vaishnavism tradition.

Andal, also known as Goda Devi, is celebrated for her deep devotion to Lord Vishnu and her poetic hymns that express her divine love and devotion. The festival honours her and is a time of devotion, celebration, and cultural activities. On Aadi Pooram 2024, devotees also share Happy Aadi Pooram wishes, HD images, Bhudevi Jayanthi messages, wallpapers and greetings.

During Aadi Pooram, special rituals and ceremonies are performed in temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Andal. Devotees often participate in processions, listen to recitations of Andal’s hymns, and engage in devotional singing and dancing. The festival is marked by the decoration of temples and homes with flowers, and elaborate offerings are made to the deities.

The focus is on expressing gratitude and seeking blessings from Andal and for health, prosperity, and spiritual growth. In addition to the religious observances, Aadi Pooram is also a time for community gatherings and cultural events. Traditional Tamil music and dance performances, as well as the sharing of festive foods, add to the vibrancy of the celebrations.
