ASHTON, W.Va. (WV News) - The Hannan Jr/Sr High School's newly formed marching band performed in their first competition on Saturday at Spring Valley High School in Huntington.

The band placed second out of six bands overall. Additionally, clarinetist Marshall Haddock earned a first place soloist award. J.

R. Carlisle, the former band director, and now Hannan principal, spoke with pride on the band's performance. "First year marching band.

Many of them have never seen a live marching band before. They do not have the luxury of getting performance practices at football games. So their very first show ever.

Incomplete show, no props or costumes. Of course that’s true of almost every band in the country right now," Carlisle said. "And they finish second place out of six.

And I’m so proud of Marshall Haddock winning best soloist in class. And place ahead of what’s considered the best small band in the state. "So proud.

Just so incredibly proud. The whoops and hollers when Hannan Jr/Sr High School Outdoor Performance Ensemble was announced could be heard half way around the state no doubt. "And the parents.

The amazing parents and guardians, community members. Just the whole support system of the band. We could not do this without you.

Thank you for all you do. From the bottom of our collective hearts, thank you," Carlisle said..
