Pune: The Samarth police arrested Gaurav Rampratap Savita , 24, of Jamnagar in Gujarat from Rasta Peth and recovered counterfeit currency of Rs 500 and Rs 100 denominations in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. A team headed by senior inspector Uttam Gitte of Samarth police was on night patrol when they spotted Gaurav acting suspiciously. The police team checked him and his belongings.

During the search, police found counterfeit currency notes with a collective face value of Rs 77,100. "We seized 142 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination and 61 notes of Rs 100 denomination," police said. The deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) and other senior officers questioned him in the last two days.

Apart from the notes, the police seized mobile phones and other valuables worth over Rs 23,000. Gitte said, "He is currently working as a hotel manager in Himachal Pradesh." Police said, "He told us that he brought the fake currency notes from a person based in Rajasthan a few days ago.
