By Park Han-sol Italian luxury brand Gucci is bringing a special pop-up photo exhibition to Seoul this month, honoring four Korean masters in visual arts, film, dance and music, as a tribute to the creative forces that fuel the country’s dynamic cultural landscape. An official poster for Gucci's upcoming photo exhibition titled "Dual Narratives: Honoring the Visionaries" / Courtesy of Gucci Coming under its spotlight are four pioneers across generations — Park Chan-wook, filmmaker behind “Oldboy” and Cannes-winning “Decision to Leave”; conceptual artist Kimsooja, who recently wrapped up a breathtaking exhibition at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris; pianist Cho Seong-jin, the first Korean to win the prestigious International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015; and trailblazing choreographer-dancer Ahn Eun-me. Titled “Dual Narratives: Honoring the Visionaries,” the event will run from Oct.
22 to 29 at Foundry Seoul. Captured intimately through the lens of photographer Kim Yong-ho, the images offer a rare glimpse into the personal and creative worlds of these cultural icons. Highlights include exclusive peeks into auteur Park’s handwritten notes and memorabilia, as well as documentary-style shots of musician Cho’s life away from the stage.
Over the years, Gucci has been engaged in different projects to strengthen its cultural ties with Korea, from funding the restoration of Seoul’s Gyeongbok Palace to staging last year’s Gucci Cruise fashion show at the roya.
