There won't be any shortage of coffee in the new area being developed on Grand Island's southwest side, west of Highway 281. A new Starbucks — Grand Island's third — is being built in Prairie Commons , at the intersection of Rae Road and 281. A Starbucks is under construction at Rae Road and Highway 281 in Prairie Commons.

Caffeine-powered construction in the area includes a new Barista’s Coffee House . That business — the second Barista's in Grand Island — is being built north of Highway 34, in the area known as the Prairie District . Its address will be 3545 Innate Circle.

Prairie Commons is to the south. Near Barista's will be Grand Island's second Big Red Treats . It will also be in the Prairie District, north of Highway 34.

Don Deitemeyer hands a man a drink at the Heartland United Way’s 9th Annual Imagination Bacon “Brews for Books” event on Friday, Aug. 9. Imagination Bacon is the fundraising event for Heartland United Way’s participation in the Imagination Library program that provides one book a month in the mail to children ages 0-5 in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties.

ABOVE: Another large turnout for Imagination Bacon at the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island on Friday. Proceeds from the event go toward the organization’s participation in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library event. Last year more than 3,000 children were served as part of the program.
