Documentary filmmaker Mike Downie and acclaimed Anishinaabe journalist Tanya Talaga are among the confirmed headliners at this year’s Algoma Fall Festival. Downie, the younger brother of Tragically Hip front man Gord Downie, recently completed a four-part docuseries about the legendary band that will premiere at next month’s Toronto International Film Festival. Talaga — a Globe and Mail columnist and renowned author — will join Downie on Oct.

16 at the Water Tower Inn Pavilion for a wide-ranging discussion about Truth and Reconciliation and her soon-to-be-released new book, The Knowing. This year’s festival will also feature Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Hawksley Workman and the Cape Breton-based family group the Barra MacNeils.
