Vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Lexus and Chevrolet are most likely to run for more than a quarter-million miles, a new study says. The website iSeeCars.com said it analyzed data from 402 million vehicles, including odometer readings, and developed a formula to determine the probability that a vehicle would run beyond 250,000 miles.

Most of the long-lasting vehicles are SUVs and pickup trucks. Toyota led the way with six vehicles in the top 10. General Motors' Chevrolet brand had two and both Lexus, Toyota's luxury brand, and Honda, each had one.

Toyotas last longer because of their engineering, said Karl Brauer, executive analyst for iSeeCars. "They're just extremely well engineered and durable cars," he said. "This just validates what everyone kind of already knows in regard to Toyota quality.

" Toyota's Tundra full-size pickup had the greatest probability of hitting the quarter-million mark at 36.6%. Brauer says that many consumers still consider a vehicle's useable life to be 100,000 miles, but the study confirms that even double that doesn't mean the end for many SUVs, trucks and cars.

"The top nine cars on this year's list have a better than 20% chance of hitting 250,000 miles," he said. Get local news delivered to your inbox!.
