Friday, November 8, 2024 The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) recently made a significant impact at the Sixteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16), held in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1, 2024. Key figures from GSTC, including Jorge Moller, Program Director for Latin America, and Tatiana Agudelo Monguí, Membership Coordinator, collaborated with global experts to spotlight the role of sustainable tourism in conserving biodiversity. In an inspiring presentation on October 26, Mr.
Moller and Ms. Agudelo Monguí joined forces with Destinos del Futuro and the Yuluca Alliance (AYLAC) to introduce “Yuluca: Latin America and the Caribbean Agreement for the Conservation of Biodiversity through Sustainable and Regenerative Tourism.” This landmark presentation highlighted the progress made by AYLAC since the inaugural GSTC Latin American and Caribbean Summit in Santa Marta in May 2024.
The Yuluca Alliance, formed in response to the growing urgency for conservation, aligns with the Kunming-Montréal framework for biodiversity protection. Its mission is to drive sustainable and regenerative tourism across Latin America and the Caribbean, with an emphasis on preserving biodiversity. The October 26 presentation not only reviewed the achievements of AYLAC’s first year but also underscored the alliance’s commitment to uniting stakeholders in the region for a sustainable tourism future.
