princeton, w.va. – Hospital administrators left the comfort of their offices Thursday and braved a dunk into cold water as they and an assortment of local food trucks came together and raised money for the United Way of Southern West Virginia.

Thursday was United Way Day at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital. Local food truck vendors Touch of Cajun, Snow Patrol Luxury Ice, Bratz BBQ, The Lemonade Lady, Frank’s Dogs and Chick-fil-A set up shop in the parking lot near the hospital’s main entrance. The centerpiece for United Way Day was a dunking booth where hospital administrators and other employees dared people to test their pitching arms and drop them into the water.

Karen Bowling, the hospital’s CEO and president, was the first in the dunking booth and the first to take multiple plunges into the cold water. “It’s United Way Day,” Bowling said before taking her seat in the dunk tank, adding it was raising funds to support Mercer County’s Dancing with the Stars Team Karen & Martin. Martin Staunton is the WVVA evening anchor and executive producer.

Dancing with the Stars is the single largest fundraiser for the United Way of Southern West Virginia. “This is one of our events and we’ve been very fortunate. The hospital’s been so involved in helping us to raise money and we do it because we are an organization for the people in our hospital, but we like to focus on helping the community and we’re trying to let our employees have fun.
