Genesis owners finally have access to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in Australia. The luxury brand has followed its parent company, Hyundai, in adding the tech to cars fitted with a factory satellite navigation system. Rather than keeping the technology for owners of new vehicles, the software update is being offered to cars dating back to the brand’s launch in 2018.
Owners of vehicles with a USB port or SD card slot can download the update and install it themselves; Genesis is also confirming whether it’s available as an over-the-air update in cars that support remote software updates. Like Hyundai, it’s also making it easier for owners to turn off the annoying audible speed limit warning system which beeps and bongs at you when you drift over the posted limit. Rather than multiple presses of the steering wheel buttons and touchscreen, the system can now be turned off by holding the mute button on the steering wheel – or using a prompt on the voice control system.
Genesis is in the process of confirming which vehicles will gain that functionality, however. The update will bring a range of other detail changes that vary based on when your car was built; a list of vehicles included in the updates is below. Some vehicles are listed multiple times due to rolling tech updates, and the intricacies of model year changes.
