This is a developing news story and will be updated once we know more. A large part of Gatwick Airport – specifically its South Terminal – has been evacuated this morning (Friday 22 November 2024) due to a security concern. “Safety and security of our passengers and staff remains our top priority,” an airport spokesperson said.

Train services to Gatwick Airport, including the Gatwick Express, are currently not running. "Gatwick Airport will not be served until further notice," a statement on Twitter reads. “This is due to the police and emergency services dealing with an incident at the airport.

At present, the station and airport are being evacuated whilst the police are dealing with an incident. We would recommend delaying your journey until later this morning.” It's not yet known what caused the security issue, nor how long the evacuation will last.

Flights and other services are expected to be delayed. Footage from the scene on social media shows what looks to be hundreds of passengers waiting outside. We will update this breaking news story once we have more information.
