Pune: Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange said the massive gathering of supporters in the city on Sunday reflects the fact that the Maratha community from across regions in Maharashtra is united and stands firmly behind the reservation cause. “Just days ago, some people said Maratha community members from Marathwada, Vidarbha, Western Maharashtra, Mumbai, and Konkan regions are divided. This gathering in Pune has proved them wrong,” said Jarange in Katraj.

The activist was en route to Alka Talkies Chowk, where he addressed a ‘Shantata Rally’ later that evening. Jarange told the gathering in Deccan that the protest for Maratha reservation will complete one year on Aug 29 and a meeting has been called in Antarwali Sarati to decide whether to contest the assembly elections. “I want to tell Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis that our community does not want to join politics.

They should give us reservation otherwise we will ensure that not even one candidate of their parties wins the election,” he said. Soon after the rally was over, Jarange was taken to Sahyadri Hospital for treatment as he had started feeling dizzy. Earlier, on Saturday as well, the activist had suffered a bout of dizziness while addressing supporters in Satara.

He had told the gathering in Pune earlier, “Doctors have advised me to rest. However, I am fighting for the future of our community. Nothing is bigger than that.

I will sacrifice myself for this cause.” Jarange also said govt should de.
