The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show there are now more than 3.5 million adults across Great Britain claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP), including nearly 173,000 living in Scotland. It's important to be aware that Adult Disability Payment (ADP) has replaced all new claims for PIP for people living north of the border.

A successful claim for PIP or ADP is worth between £114.80 and £737.20 every four-week payment period, however, many people considering making a new claim for either disability benefit, or waiting on an award decision may not know there are eight possible payment outcomes.

There are two components to PIP and ADP, the daily living and mobility parts. People could be awarded the lowest rate of one or both parts, the highest rate of one or both parts, or a mixed award of the lower or higher rates of each component. That might sound a bit confusing, so to make it easier we have calculated all the possible payment opinions .

Before we do the sums, you need to know the weekly payment rates for PIP and ADP first. Daily living component Standard rate: £72.65 Enhanced rate: £108.
