“The Nanny” star and SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher is joining the cast of Josh Safdie’s currently shooting ping pong movie “Marty Supreme”. Drescher will play the mother of Timothée Chalamet’s lead character in the film which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow in her first screen role in five years, and the film debut of Tyler, the Creator. The eclectic casting doesn’t stop there with magician Penn Jillette, “Shark Tank” investor and TV personality Kevin O’Leary, and bad boy filmmaker Abel Ferrara all scoring on-screen roles.

The story follows Chalamet as a young table tennis pro in a fictional work set in the world of 1950s ping pong culture. Photos of Chalamet in costume appeared online last week. Drescher was elected president of SAG-AFTRA in 2021 and famously became the face of the union in 2023 during the five-month actors strike that disrupted the entertainment industry.

This marks her first announced film since, though she appears in the “This is Spinal Tap” sequel. “Marty Supreme” is Safdie’s first solo feature directorial effort since 2008. He and Ronald Bronstein wrote the script and both produce alongside Chalamet, Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas.
