Pune: Four men on two bikes attacked a 26-year-old associate with a private firm in Kalyaninagar before forcing him to reveal his cellphone password by threatening him with a knife on Friday. The attackers then transferred Rs5,000 from his digital wallet to their UPI account around 4am. Senior inspector Ravindra Shelke of the Yerawada police on Saturday said the associate, Uzer Shaikh from Bhavani Peth, was riding a two-wheeler.

He crossed an underpass from Sakorenagar and was on his way to New Airport Road when four men on two bikes intercepted him, he said. He said the suspects picked up a dispute with Shaikh claiming that he had suddenly taken a sharp turn. “They thrashed him and demanded Rs 1,000.

He, however, refused,” he said. One of the suspects placed a knife on the victim’s stomach, and his accomplices snatched the cellphone and forced him to reveal the PIN number, he said, adding that they then scanned a QR code on their phone and transferred Rs 5,000 and sped away. “We were analysing CCTV footage at the spot to establish the identity of the four accused.

We hope to detect the robbery case at the earliest,” he added.
