When Amazon launched its spy franchise Citadel in 2022 with the promise of an expanding universe, the scope of how those shows might differ from Citadel’s high-tech toys, sleek near-future production design and cut-from-the-cloth espionage archetypes was difficult to grasp. The second of the two new projects, Citadel: Honey Bunny , starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, shifts its setting to India and dials back the clock. But the first, Citadel: Diana , set in Italy, offers a sleeker, stylish, near-future spotlight for super spy Diana Cavalieri to step into.

Credit: Prime Video “Our starting point was this world of Citadel , and it had very specific parameters about these two rival agencies that have clashed over a number of years for dominance,” the show’s producer Gina Gardini tells Green Guide. “What was interesting for our show was to explore something that wasn’t explored so deeply in the mother show, and that was what [the enemy agency] Manticore is,” she says.
“So, we take that deep dive into Manticore through the eyes of a Citadel agent, our beautiful Diana, who has been trapped behind enemy lines for eight years.” Set in the near future, like Citadel itself, the world of Citadel: Diana is ultra-stylised, mirroring the polish, sparkle and zing of the mothership. It also feels like the fashion is cutting edge, even if the uneven bob haircut Diana (Matilda De Angelis) sports seems like .
