A building in Bolton has been transformed and is now used to help those most in need. The Tonge with the Haulgh Community Centre, previously known as the Oddfellows Hall, has been transformed with the help of the Bolton Hindu Age Inspiration charity and the Big Local initiative in its transformation . The move has been hailed with the venue now being said to stand as a “beacon of hope” to the surrounding area.
It now opens from 10am and 3pm and offers activities and services to people. These are focused on supporting the elderly, people with mobility challenges and those feeling isolated in the area . It also provides support for carers in recognition of the work they do for their loves ones.
Bhagvati Parmar from the centre said: “We understand the importance of meeting the needs of carers and offering them a space for respite and support.” The revitalised community centre has also become a spot for small groups to pursue their interests. People are urged to come along to share their passions and make use of the new space and amenities.
It also helps students, the unemployed and people who do not have access to Wifi. At the hotdesking facilities there is space for people to study, work and print things out. The centre acknowledges the importance of education and providing opportunities to those who need it most.
