Tourists flying overseas have been warned about hand luggage rules that may be 'different' to those in the UK. The Foreign Office has urged holidaymakers they 'should check' the rules in the country they're flying to before they leave. In June, the British government temporarily reintroduced the 100ml liquids limit for travellers departing from UK airports.

Major upgrades had been made to security halls in airports across the country to install state-of-the-art scanners that would allow passengers to carry larger liquids in their hand luggage. However, when launched at a handful of airports, the scanners had a higher-than-expected rejection rate, which resulted in security officers having to search cabin bags by hand, leading to delays. Many airports in Europe, meanwhile, still require liquids to fit inside a small plastic bag for screening, so Brits might find that they have to follow the old rules on their return journey.
