Warrenton High School football’s five-game winning streak came to an end Friday as the Warriors came up short against Yamhill-Carlton, 26-21. Despite battling back from deficits all night, the Warriors fell short in their spirited comeback as the No. 6 ranked Tigers got two first downs to ice away the game.
Warrenton trailed much of the game, but behind a collaborative offensive effort led by two Ryder Sturgell touchdowns, the Warriors got the game to 26-21 with 3:49 left. The Tigers would pick up two first downs from deep inside their own territory to close things out. With the loss, Warrenton falls to 5-3 on the season and now has three losses by a total of just nine points.
The Warriors have no time to rest as they host No. 2 and undefeated Banks this Friday. That game will be senior night.
Seaside High School football unleashed the offense Friday against St. Helens. The Seagulls racked up 465 yards and 63 points on just 42 plays during their 63-6 knockout of St.
Helens. Quarterback Zayden Anderson had his best game of the season as he went 8/10 for 171 yards and four touchdowns through the air. Anderson spread the wealth as he hit Ryder Jackson, Jordan Westerholm, Hayden Halsen and Barett Blodgett for scores.
Jackson also had 93 yards and a rushing touchdown. A pair of sophomores also had nice games for Seaside as Efrain Ramirez saw time at running back and got into the end zone, while Halsen had an interception return for a touchdown in addition to his one receiving. A.
