Pune: The flyover at Rajaram Bridge Chowk on Sinhagad Road is set to open for vehicles on Thursday, in partial relief for commuters as the another flyover between Vitthalwadi and Wadgaon Budruk will take another four months to complete. MLA Madhuri Misal on Wednesday announced that the flyover at Rajaram Bridge junction would be thrown open for commuters on Thursday. Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar is likely to be present for its inauguration.

Commuters have complained that the traffic situation on the Sinhagad Road stretch till Dandekar Bridge had become chaotic, especially during the monsoon, amid the flyover works, which had reduced the carriageway width significantly. The crucial flyover between Vitthalwadi and Wadgaon Budruk on Sinhagad Road will eliminate need to halt at more than seven junctions after it becomes operational. The civic administration has said more than 50% of the flyover work had been completed so far and there was a plan to finish the remaining works by Dec-end.

Wadgaon Budruk resident Ashok Joshi said the flyover at Rajaram Bridge Chowk would help in resolving the traffic mess on the stretch only to a certain extent. “To give commuters respite from nagging traffic jams, PMC should expedite the work of the Wadgaon flyover. We can just hope that it becomes operational year-end,” Joshi said.

Activists and political parties, including NCP (SCP) and Aam Aadmi Party, recently held agitations to register their protest against the traffic chaos on Sinhag.
