Five people who died when a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily were trying to escape the water in the same cabin, authorities believe. Italian emergency services said it was “clear people were trying to hide in cabins” on the opposite side of the yacht to that which was sinking most rapidly. The news comes after the body of the final missing passenger , British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch ‘s 18-year-old daughter Hannah, was recovered on Friday morning. Six other people – Mr Lynch, Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judith Bloomer, lawyer Christopher Morvillo, his wife Neda Morvillo and chef Recaldo Thomas – died in the incident.

Mr Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, survived the disaster along with 14 others. Chief prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio told reporters that his office had opened an initial investigation into manslaughter and negligent shipwreck against unknown persons, and that he thought it was “probable that offences were committed” regarding the sinking of the yacht. Enquiries are being led by local authorities in Termini Imerese, with involvement from British and American authorities.
