Five enormous new skyscrapers, housing a total of 2,388 flats, are poised to be constructed on Deansgate – with one potentially becoming Manchester's tallest building. The towers, all proposed by property development giant Renaker, are expected to receive planning permission this week. All five are situated on land owned by Renaker on Great Jackson Street, nestled between Deansgate Square and Mancunian Way.

The loftiest of the five is known as Plot D, which will stand 71 storeys high. If granted planning permission, it will overtake Deansgate Square South Tower another Renaker project - as the city's tallest building, reaching a height of 213 metres (698 ft). Thursday's (August 29) planning meeting will thus mark the beginning of a competition between Renaker and rival developer Salboy, which revealed plans for a 76-storey skyscraper earlier this year, set to be even taller than Plot D.

This means that if Renaker wishes to retain its title as the company behind the city's giants, it will need to build and open Plot D quicker than Salboy can complete Viadux 2a. The £300 million Plot D will feature a 'lantern' design at the top, reminiscent of a lighthouse, according to Renaker. Starting from the 67th floor, this lantern will accommodate the private residential amenities, reports .

These amenities will comprise lounges, private dining, and meeting rooms on the 67th floor, along with a swimming pool, sauna, and gym on the 68th level, which also extend up to the 69th storey. T.
