Pune: Five people, including an eatery owner in Mhalunge, were arrested on Wednesday for bludgeoning a daily wage worker (25) to death. The arrested people are Deepak Jadhav (25) of Dighi, the eatery owner and his four employees. They allegedly thrashed the victim, Sanket Gawade of Nighoje in Khed taluka, with sticks until he fainted in a lodge in Mhalunge.

“The victim was taken to a nearby hospital. After his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to another hospital, where he died on Aug 27. We have registered a non-cognisable offence against the medical practitioner, who first treated the victim but did not inform the police,” Mahalunge MIDC senior inspector Nitin Gite said.

Inspector P Y Kamble said Gawade had gone to the eatery for dinner with his wife and two children on Aug 19. While paying the bill “one of the suspects (an employee of the eatery) threw a chit towards Gawade’s wife with a phone number written on it,” he said.Gawade had heated arguments with him when,“The latter slapped the victim.

Jadhav later called Gawade and told him to come to the lodge to solve the matter,” Kamble said. He said Gawade, his wife and children went to the lodge on Aug 20. The victim was thrashed and his wife slapped when she tried to intervene.

His wife on Wednesday registered a case against the suspects. They have been charged under sections 103 (1) [murder], 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 189, 190 and 191 (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). We also publis.
