An indigenous agricultural firm Davidorlah Nigeria Limited on Monday announced its readiness to empower over 50,000 young Nigerians on pineapple farming across the country in line with the Federal Government commitment to address food security in the country. Addressing National Assembly Correspondents in Abuja the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer CEO of the Firm, Ambassador. Oluwasegun Alabi said that the proposed empowerment plan was open to interested Nigerian Youths with no condition attached He however appealed to the Federal Government to provide the enabling environment for farming in order to address food insecurity and food crisis in the country.

Ambassador Alabi who stated that the firm with the headquarters at Ago Iwoye,Ogun State was already developing an App for easy enrollment or interested Nigerians disclosed that the firm was also working with some state governments for land acquisition for the project across the States of the Federation and the federal C apital Territory, FCT, Abuja He explained that the firm’s decision to embark on such large scale of pineapple farming was because the country was losing a whopping N50 million daily to the importation of pineapples despite producing about 1,607,200 metric tons per annum, placing the country as the eighth largest producer of the crop in the world He lamented that despite its comparative advantage, the country was importing pineapple from Ghana and Togo ranked as the 13th and 16th producer of pineapple in the.
