Pune: Nearly six scrap shops in the Kudalwadi area of Chikhali were destroyed in a fire on Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported in the incident. The Pimpri Chinchwad fire brigade deployed 12 fire tenders and six water tankers to extinguish the blaze.

Fire officer Balasaheb Vaidya of the Pimpri Chinchwad fire brigade told TOI that the fire broke out around 4pm at one of the six scrap shops. "Prima facie, a short circuit could be the cause for the fire," he said. "Due to the scrap material, which included rubber, papers, plastic, and wooden material, the fire spread to five neighbouring shops," Vaidya said.

The fire brigade team took an hour to douse the flames. Cooling operations were under way till late in the evening..
