Pune: Police on Monday registered a case of hurting religious sentiments against two youngsters, including a 16-year-old Std IX student at a city school, on the charge of posting an objectionable message on the photo and video sharing app account of a classmate. This comes after a sizeable crowd gathered on the campus that houses the school, among other institutions, around 12pm on Monday and demanded police action over the matter. A police team went to the campus to defuse the situation.

The student had used his friend's cellphone handset to send the message to the other student from his class at the same school on Sunday, police said. Police also named the handset owner in the FIR . "The incident resulted from a previous quarrel between two students from the same class at the school.

We resolved the situation to ensure that there was no untoward fallout," DCP (Zone II) Smartana Patil told TOI. A senior police officer said one of the protesting community members had lodged a complaint on behalf of the student who received the message on his photo and video sharing app account. The officer said, "We have issued a notice to the parents of the student, who posted the message, asking them to produce him before the investigating officer as and when called.

His friend's cellphone handset has also been impounded for the purpose of investigation.".
