Published 4:30 pm Saturday, July 13, 2024 By Sabrina Simms Robertson NATCHEZ — Natchez Film Co.’s project “Postal Parasites” is on the nominee list for 11 different award categories of the 48-Hour Film Project: New Orleans competition, filmmakers announced today. The 48-Hour Film Project is a global event that happens in more than 100 cities on different weekends throughout the year.

Filmmaking teams in the competition create a short film in one weekend to be judged by local judges of the city they are entered. Contestants draw genres from a hat and receive contest rules during a Friday night kickoff party. Then it is off to the races — writing, shooting and editing and doing whatever it takes to submit their film on Sunday night.

Every film, whether submitted on time or late, will screen at local theaters, but the top films earn more exposure. “Stay tuned for the announcement of our Natchez premiere, coming soon!” Natchez Film Co. shared on its page Saturday.

The plot centers around a pair of struggling filmmakers who resort to package thievery to fund their movie, according to IMDb. More than a dozen awards are given in the competition. The topmost prize is Best Film.

The winner of Best Film will screen at the international film festival “Filmapalooza,” which features screenings, workshops and parties and is attended by filmmakers from around the world. Best Films also go on to compete for “Grand Champion of the Year” at Filmapalooza. Natchez Film Co.
