Hollyoaks fans are fearing that one of the legends of the Channel 4 soap has quit to pursue a new role on a rival channel. The BBC have cast Jennifer Metcalfe in a new drama, that has been given the green light by executives. The drama, called We Go Again, will see Jennifer have a guest role in the six-part series which is set to air next year.

The new BBC series will star Chenée Taylor, Kaydrah Walker-Wilkie and Akins Subair in the lead roles and will be based on 2011 play Three Birds. There were initial fears that this would bring to an end Jennifer's 18-year career on Hollyoaks playing Mercedes McQueen, but The Sun has reported that she will still be a part of the Channel 4 soap after the 40-year-old survived a cull of cast members. Speaking to The Sun, Jennifer revealed that there will be some 'never done before' stunts coming up in Hollyoaks.

She said: "Do you know what, we're just filming the last lot of the five episodes and the start of the three episodes. I've never felt so excited about Hollyoaks - how it's wrapping it up is like something we've never done before and how it's introducing the 'new show' as I call it is just unbelievable." Jennifer continued: "You'll see characters in a position where you've never seen them before, like literally ever.

I think we've had times over the last 20 years with Mercedes where I've gone 'oh I've not done this before, I've not explored this avenue and it is just I haven't but to this depth with my character is going to be som.
