Pune: Additional sessions judge K P Kshirsgar on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a 59-year-old father to 25 years' rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 10,000 for sexually assaulting his 13-year-old daughter in 2018. The prosecution's case is that the accused, a mason, sexually assaulted his daughter, then a student of standard VIII, at different places between Nov 7, 2017 and Oct 3, 2018. The incident came to light after the survivor's mother registered an FIR with the Lonikand police on Oct 7, 2018.

Her husband was arrested the next day. Judge Kshirsagar in his order observed that there is cogent; clinching reliable and sterling evidence against the accused who repeatedly sexually assaulted his daughter in a farm field and in their house. The prosecution had established the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt and there are no material discrepancies in its evidence.

The judge directed the Pune district legal services authority to provide compensation to the survivor. Special public prosecutor Nitin Konghe examined five witnesses and relied on the survivor and her mother's evidence to prove that the accused committed an offence against the society. Lawyer Gaurav Jachak represented the survivor.
