"I know I say this every year, but the way the Macleay Valley people support the Kempsey Cup is fantastic," Secretary John Graham said. "It's so good to see the locals get behind it and it's a sort of catch-up day for a lot of people." The odds are split between the most popular things to do on with the crowd typically glued to both the track and to the trends.
This year's prize pool for Fashions on the Field is believed to be the biggest to date with more than $5,500 donated by local businesses. "We have vouchers galore from local businesses, we've got weekends away, gift packs from local hairdressers, EFTPOS cards for kids, alcohol for the adults and hampers for the family," said organiser Shelley Ball. Winners were announced in between the afternoon races, with 60 entrants and winners from seven categories The categories of the day were Little Cherubs, Shining Stars,Trendsetting Teens, Lady of the Day Contemporary, Lady of the Day Classic, Gentleman and Millinery (head piece).
