A man suffered life-threatened injuries after an assault in Farnworth on Wednesday night . Reports of an assault were made at around midnight yesterday and the victim remains in hospital. No arrests have been made and police are still making enquiries.

A police cordon and forensic tent were seen on Buckley Lane in Farnworth from the early hours on Thursday morning opposite The Bridgewater Hotel. A second cordon was in place at an alleyway just off Buckley Lane. Police remained on the scene throughout the day, with the road shut as investigations got underway.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers were called to reports of an assault at around 12am on Thursday 11 July. “The male victim suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital. “No arrests made, and enquiries are ongoing.
