The anticipation surrounding the third installment of the Don franchise has been palpable since Farhan Akhtar announced it earlier last year. With Ranveer Singh stepping into the titular role, the film has generated both excitement and controversy, particularly due to the absence of Shah Rukh Khan, who portrayed the iconic anti-hero in the previous two films. Farhan Akhtar reveals why Ranveer Singh was the ‘right guy’ for Don 3 after Shah Rukh Khan: “The new story needed for there to be a younger actor” In a recent interview with Faye D’souza, Akhtar addressed the speculation surrounding Shah Rukh Khan's involvement.

“When I first started thinking about doing a Don 3 , I mean I thought of writing something with Shah Rukh in it, but somehow we just couldn't find the right place to be able to take the story to. We couldn't find common ground on it – so that didn't happen,” he explained. Given the challenges in collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan for this project, Akhtar decided to revisit the origins of the Don character.

He wanted to delve deeper into the elements that made the original Don so captivating. “So I was like, let me just kind of rethink what I want to do with the film and kind of go back. Kind of go a little bit more into like a 'what made Don, Don' kind of story, and that's when I started writing that.
