Bids for the meal with the metal icon have nearly reached $30,000 A US-based sports charity is offering metal fans the opportunity to have a dinner date with James Hetfield. Developed by the Adaptive Sports Foundation – a 501(c)(3) non-profit that looks to make athletics more accessible to those with physical and cognitive disabilities and chronic illnesses – the auction is giving one fan the chance to have dinner with the Metallica frontman. According to the page, the dinner will have to take place in Edwards, Colorado, which isn’t far from the vocalist’s home in Vail, and the date of the dinner must be scheduled within three months of the end of the auction.

The winner will also be allowed to bring up to three additional guests for the night, however, the rules also stipulate that the winner of the auction will have to foot the entire bill for the night. Travel and accommodation aren’t included in the package and the whole thing is expected to be wrapped up within two hours, that being said, the winner is allowed to take a photo with the metal legend and can bring along something small to be signed. The auction is open until next Wednesday (August 21) and at time of writing the bid stands at $28,500 (£22,112).
