One of the best-known beauty spots in Wales revealed its hidden dangers during this week’s supermoon. Ynys Llanddwyn, a tidal island on Anglesey’s southwest coast, offers captivating views and stunning sunsets but it can catch out the unwary. Tuesday night’s supermoon , the second of four this year, left Ynys Llanddwyn cut off as high tides surged to their highest of the month so far.

One person, enjoying an evening on the island, suddenly found themselves marooned in darkness. Shortly before 9pm on Tuesday, September 17, Rhosneigr Coastguard Rescue Team were alerted to the visitor’s distress call. When team members arrived on the scene, they located the castaway and communicated by shouting across the water.

Together, the two teams hatched a plan. “Following the arrival of our colleagues at Holyhead, a decision was made to tether up two team members in full water rescue PPE and wade across the water to our casualty,” said a Rhosneigr spokesperson.

“The casualty was then checked over and, as they were OK and not requiring any medical assistance, they were kitted up in a drysuit and lifejacket and carefully escorted back across the water. Beach safety advice in regards to checking tidal times and weather conditio.
