The family of an 18-year-old girl who died this year have raised concerns over her care. Neveah Owen from Bolton died on March 14 at Royal Bolton Hospital. Neveah had previously been admitted to mental health wards, including Junction 17 in Prestwich and the Oak Ward at Royal Bolton Hospital.

On August 6, a pre-inquest review was held at Bolton Coroners Court , where concerns over her care were mentioned. Neveah's parents, Linda and Anthony Owen, attended the inquest alongside their legal counsel, as well as representatives from Greater Manchester Mental Health and Royal Bolton Hospital. Family counsel Ms Barton said the family had issues with the transfer from Junction 17 in Prestwich Hospital to Oak Ward at Royal Bolton Hospital as opposed to a personality disorder unit.

" She also made reference to concerns made by the family that, after her transfer, if Nevaeh "remained on the Oak Ward she would die". Ms Barton added that they would like to see correspondence regarding any potential transfers to a personality disorder unit as opposed to the Oak Ward. She added: "The family are concerned about the suitability of the Oak Ward compared to a personality disorder unit.

Her mum made a series of complaints to PALS expressing her levels of concern for Neveah's safety on the ward and the management of risk."
