Six people have been killed and seven are missing after a fishing boat carrying 27 people tragically sunk on Tuesday nearly 200 miles off the coast of the Falkland Islands, as reported by British and Spanish maritime officials. The 176ft vessel, named the Argos Georgia, foundered in the South Atlantic near Argentina, with fourteen survivors managing to reach a life raft and subsequently rescued by two other fishing boats that were in the vicinity, according to Spanish authorities. An emergency signal was received from the Argos Georgia by the Falkland Islands on Monday.

The signal indicated that the boat was east of Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands, when it began taking on water. Officials from Spain's Pontevedra province in south-eastern Galicia confirmed that 10 of the crew members were Spaniards, but did not provide further details on their condition. They also revealed that the crew was composed of several different nationalities.

On the social media platform X, the provincial government identified one of the dead as the ship's cook from the town of Baiona. READ MORE: British tourist, 45, dies after plunging 33ft off luxury hotel balcony in Cyprus At the time, the ship was sailing at a..
