Hard work paid off for the “extraordinary” students at a Bolton school today. GCSE pupils at University Collegiate School received their GCSE results and the school said outcomes “markedly” improved since last year. Star students like Amir Abdulkareem had reason to be proud.

Amir Abdulkareem (Image: Newsquest) Amir achieved eight GCSEs, including 6 in English and Maths and a 7 in science. He said: "I did pretty well to be honest. "It was not too difficult because I was quite focused in class, but it wasn't the easiest.

He got 6s in science and an 8 in English. He said: "The exams went way better than I expected. “I started a bit shaky because it was going to be a big year for me.

"I kept my head down the whole year, focused as hard as I could. “Clearly the results have shown today, and I'm really pleased with that." Zuhaib is going on to do a T-level in vehicle maintenance and repair.
