Pune: The Wakad police on Tuesday arrested a 22-year-old man on the charge of assaulting a resident (33) of Rahatani, following arguments over a petty issue. The police found that suspect Saurabh Sathe had previous criminal cases against him, and had been externed from the district for two years. An officer of the Wakad police said the assault occurred late on Sunday night in Rahatani, when the victim, who works in a private company, was chatting with his friends.

“Sathe and his accomplice arrived at the spot and asked the victim to share the cellphone number of his friend. When the victim said he did not have the number, the suspect thrashed him,” said the officer. He added that when the victim’s friends tried to intervene, the suspect threatened them with dire consequences.
