Monday, January 6, 2025 Weather warnings remain in place across much of the UK as snow showers, ice, and heavy rain continue to wreak havoc on travel and daily life. Over the weekend, significant snowfall and icy conditions disrupted major transportation networks, and the Met Office has issued further warnings as wintry weather persists. Major airports, including Manchester , faced temporary runway closures due to heavy snow, leaving passengers stranded and flights delayed.

Similarly, road networks across northern England and Wales were heavily impacted, with stranded vehicles and accidents creating bottlenecks on key routes. The M5 in Gloucestershire was closed southbound between junctions 11A and 12 due to extensive flooding. In Warwickshire, flooding led to the closure of a section of the A46 , compounded by a lorry collision that required diversions likely to last through Monday evening.

In south Wales, the A48 near the Llanedeyrn roundabout was reduced to one lane following a serious collision. The Met Office has warned that further travel disruption is likely, with icy and flooded conditions persisting. Over 60 flood warnings and 260 flood alerts have been issued across the UK, urging residents to avoid driving through floodwaters and to stay away from swollen rivers.

As of Monday, a yellow warning for snow and ice remains in effect across northern England and Wales until midday, while Northern Ireland faces icy conditions under a similar warning until 11 a.m. Scotland .
