Monday, August 12, 2024 Xi’an, the historic capital of Shaanxi, has joined the growing list of Chinese cities offering a 144-hour visa-free transit policy, now available at 36 other ports of entry across the country. Under this policy, citizens from 54 nations, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, can visit Shaanxi without a visa for up to 144 hours (six days). To qualify, travelers must possess valid international travel documents and have onward tickets to a third country or region within the allotted time.

During their visa-free stay, eligible visitors can engage in a range of short-term activities, such as tourism, business meetings, family visits, and cultural exchanges, within the designated area. For travelers from countries with mutual visa waiver agreements or unilateral visa exemption policies with China, those arrangements will supersede the new policy. Shaanxi, a region steeped in history and culture, offers a multitude of experiences for those looking to explore its rich heritage.

Xi’an, the capital city, is especially famous for its deep connection to the Tang Dynasty, a period celebrated for its cultural and artistic achievements. Visitors have the opportunity to delve into this vibrant history through a variety of themed districts and cutting-edge tourism experiences that utilize augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Notable sites such as the Grand Tang Mall, Tang Paradise, and the Shaanxi History Museum stand as testamen.
