With the hottest day of 2024 so far upon, scores of Brits are heading are heading to the coast to bask in the glorious 30 degree heat. Fun in the sun is not without its risks, however, particularly our kids who are making the most of their six week summer holiday from school. Thankfully, a luxury childrenswear expert is on hand to provide his three top tips parents should follow to avoid their little ones suffering any health issues from the sun's rays.

Adam Laws, from Baked Clay London , says hat selection is key as protection from the sun is "absolutely crucial for children" because their delicate skin is more susceptible to sunburn and long-term damage. "A wide-brimmed hat with a chin strap is a must-have, providing essential shade for the face, neck, and ears," he adds. "The chin strap is key as this will keep the accessory from falling off as they play.

" He continues: "You can also now find hats with Ultraviolet Protection Factor ratings for added protection, although these can be difficult to find at the last minute. Focus on opting for breathable fabrics like cotton or mesh to keep your child cool and comfortable. Remember, while sunscreen is essential, hats offer an additional layer of defense, especially for those hard-to-reach areas.

" It's important we all stay hydrated when out in the sun, and according to the NHS , children should drink six to eight glasses of fluid each day (approx. two pints or one litre). "Try fruit-infused water for juice-like hydration," Adam.
