A-level results day brings with it a heady mix of emotions as it marks the end of a school journey the start of a new future for many. Anxiety and fear are overtaken by joy, relief or disappointment as students discover what grades they have been given and all that entails. Whatever the outcome there is one certainty on the day – there will be an annual update on Jeremy Clarkson’s current life status.

For the past 10 years, the multi-millionaire television presenter has posted on social media his own A-level grades achieved while at prestigious private school Repton. (A C and two Us, for those not in the know) And with it he offers a report on how his life is going 40-odd years after his own A-level results day, from holidaying on a superyacht to opening his own brewery. Aside from the free advertising for his latest venture, its aim is to serve as a reminder to teenagers caught up in a spiral of doubt or despair over A-level results which didn’t go the way they expected that in the end those grades are never as important as they seemed at the time.
