Sunday, September 15, 2024 A new £21 billion train line is set to connect Europe’s most scenic cities, cutting travel times and boosting connectivity across the continent in a groundbreaking development. A new €25 billion high-speed rail will slash Paris-Milan travel time by 3 hours, revolutionizing passenger and freight transport through the Alps. In just eight years, travel time between Paris and Milan will be cut by a staggering three hours, thanks to the upcoming Turin-Lyon high-speed rail line.

Spanning 167 miles, this new rail route aims to revolutionize both passenger travel and freight transport, offering faster and more efficient services. Currently, direct trains connect Paris and Milan, but the journey takes around seven hours. With the new high-speed link, travelers can expect the trip to be reduced to approximately four and a half hours.

Other holiday routes will also see significant improvements, including the Paris-Milan service, which is expected to save around 90 minutes. The trains will traverse the Alps through the Mon d’Ambin Base Tunnel, a 56.8km engineering marvel that will become the world’s longest tunnel of its kind upon completion.

Not only will this new railway enhance passenger experiences, but it will also reduce road freight traffic, contributing to lower local air pollution levels. The project comes with a hefty price tag of €25 billion (£21 billion), with 40% of the funding provided by the European Union. This EU contribution could .
